Path alongside A47
Short Walk and Annual Public Meeting

Start at Church House

Although there was a cool breeze, the sun also shone for a good proportion of our 4 mile walk on Saturday afternoon. Twenty-three of us met at the bottom of Church Street dressed in the full range from coats and woolly hats to light shirts and shorts.

Our route took us through Queen Mothers’ Garden then out along High Street and London Road, where we were at last able to turn away from the traffic to go up Greens Road. There we were able to use the Restricted Byway alongside the A47, which we cross on the footbridge, heading further east across open land with views of Norfolk's 'big sky'.

Most trees were newly in leaf with bright green on show, with just a few species such as the late developing English Oak yet come into full leaf.

We turned south down the footpath connecting to Dumpling Green, carefully negotiating the still (though less) flooded bottom few metres, before starting the return into town. We crossed Yaxham Road by the former Jolly Farmers pub, and then went over the railway, where the Mid-Norfolk Railway kindly provided us with the passage of a heritage diesel unit on its way to Yaxham.

We continued westwards to cross Shipdham Road to pick up the footpath (and cycle route) that led us back into town.

The walk was followed by our Annual Public Meeting, where those present enjoyed tea, coffee, biscuits and cake before spending an hour or so hearing about our activities over the last year or so and offering their thoughts on what we might consider for the future.

Our thanks go to all for attending and contributing.
