Committee meeting synopsis
Meeting date: 6 March, 2017
Our meeting was much occupied with plans to reprint and extend the pack of walks
guides, of which some 3000 were originally produced two years ago, and all but
a handful have now found new owners. With two new walks already available and
three more imminent there was some discussion about whether the walks might be
better put into a booklet; further quotations will be obtained. Whichever format
is chosen it is a costly exercise, as we intend to continue to make the packs
available without charge. After the meeting, we learned that we had been granted
some money for this by Dereham Town Council, which takes us part way to our
target of £2000. We are still exploring further sources of funding.
In the meantime, we have been spending what little money we have, this time on
insurance. Until now, our walks had been led by the Town Council's Footpath
Warden, who was insured by them to do so. We have felt it more appropriate to
have our own public liability insurance, which then covers all of us who lead
the walks, and this is now in place.
Most of the rest of our time together was spent in finalising plans for our two
Easter events, both which you can read about on the
events page - the Simnel Cake walk on Saturday 15
April and the 'Walk in Wonderland' event for children and their families on
Easter Monday 17 April.
Keeping a wider perspective, we are planning an exchange walk with colleagues at
Cromer Walkers are Welcome in May, when we will get a breath of sea air, and
swap thoughts and ideas about how to promote walking in our respective areas. We
are hoping that representatives from Aylsham and Swaffham, other areas
developing their Walkers are Welcome activities, will also be able to join us.
