Committee meeting synopsis
Meeting date: 18 September, 2017
Once more, consideration of walks, past and present, took centre stage
at our September committee meeting. We thought that the Yaxham walk on
Late Summer Bank Holiday, went well, in spite of the confusion over
payment for refreshments that affected some people: we are grateful to
all who assisted in getting everything straight. Plans for the walks on
1 October (the
Garden
Party walk (PDF, open in new tab)) and 25 October (Thuxton by Train
walk) are well advanced. Tickets for the Garden Party walk are available
now, while those for the later walk will be ready on 1 October.
We are also starting to consider how to proceed in 2018. We intend to
have a New Year’s Day walk again, though have still to decide the route
and the end point. We think that we should stick fairly closely to the
2017 pattern of fixing walks on Bank Holiday Mondays through the year
(though omitting May day as it is too close to Easter and Late Spring
Holidays), plus the Garden Party in September/October. We are, however,
thinking of adding an extra date in June or July for a Sunday walk. We
will be asking those on our mailing list for their views on these and
other matters, but welcome any thoughts from you now.
Work on our new pack of leaflets continues, with most now initially
prepared and many tested out - but if you would like to test any of them
for us, contact
Ken Hawkins.
We reviewed the first outing for our new banner - the Fringe Festival
organised by Friends of Dereham Memorial Hall on 9 September. Our stall
was visited by a good number of the many who came to the Memorial Hall
that day, some of whom joined our mailing list and some who took details
of our next walk. This certainly provided us with some good publicity,
which nicely complements the work we have also been doing to advertise
the town’s status as a Walkers are Welcome town: several businesses are
now sporting our ‘welcome’ stickers, and we continue to approach more as
time goes on. If you run a business, or know someone who does, that
would take a sticker (misnamed, as they can be peeled off without
leaving any mark) - let us know, we will happily supply one.
